The Direction replaces the SESSF Closures Direction 2007.The closures made by the new Direction provide for improved environmental and stock management and have been developed in consultation with the SESSF Management Advisory Committees and Research Advisory Groups. The Direction updates the closures under the SESSF Closures Direction 2007 and includes several new spatial closures, two amended closures and some pre-existing closures.

As under the 2007 Direction, some closures are based on depth contours. Due to the operational difficulty of following depth contours, lines of best fit have been developed and these lines are defined by a series of coordinates. It is these coordinates that define the closure area, not the depth contour. The coordinates are available in PDF format from the AFMA website and closures for the trawl sector are available on CD. Maps of the closures are being finalised and will be mailed out once complete.
